A new site
This site is new. It is written in SvelteKit, runs on a single small server, and is deployed by pushing an image over SSH. Nothing here is managed by anyone else.
What runs it
The stack is deliberately small, because small things keep working:
- SvelteKit with the Node adapter, behind Caddy for TLS.
- Postgres, for accounts and the things people leave behind — reactions, comments, mailing-list signups.
- Markdown files in git for these posts. No editor, no admin form, no database rows to migrate. A post is a file; a correction is a commit.
Deploys build on my desktop and ship a finished container image. The server has one core and two gigabytes of memory, which is enough to serve a site like this and not enough to build one — so it never tries.
Why write it down
Mostly so that the decisions have reasons attached. A choice with a recorded reason can be revisited later; a choice without one just gets re-argued.
