Colophon

Last updated 9 September 2026

Built with SvelteKit and TypeScript, styled with Tailwind, backed by Postgres, and served by Caddy on a single small server. Deploys build here and ship a finished container image; the server never builds anything itself.

Type and marks

The wordmark is drawn as vector geometry rather than set in a typeface — so it needs no font download, stays sharp at any size, and inverts for the dark theme without a second asset. The letterforms are 1930s industrial; the rule beneath them is a riveted girder.

Body text uses whatever your system already has. No fonts are fetched from anywhere, which is faster and avoids handing a third party a record of your visit.

The front page image

Lunch atop a Skyscraper, taken on 20 September 1932 during the construction of Rockefeller Center in New York. Eleven ironworkers on a beam 840 feet above the street, eating lunch.

Light and dark

The theme follows your system preference and can be overridden with the toggle. The choice is applied before the page paints, so there is no flash of the wrong colour, and it is remembered in your browser rather than on the server.

  • No analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising.
  • No third-party fonts, scripts, or embeds.
  • No cookie banner, because there is nothing to consent to beyond a login session.
